Binbou Shimai Monogatari:
The Sappiest Thing I've Ever Seen

Binbou Shimai Monogatari (The Poor Sisters Story) is about two impoverished girls who hug each other all day.

Flower Petals + The Rosiest Cheeks in the Universe = Sappy

Their mother died and their father ran away, leaving the sisters to rely on each other's love in order to survive. Think that's sappy? You don't know the half of it. Read the lyrics to the intro:

It gets sappier. Their optimism in the face of adversity warms the hearts of those around them:

Conclusion: Binbou Shimai Monogatari is the sappiest thing I've ever seen.

But for some reason it was watchable. The girls from BMS are humble and responsible, unlike the useless spoiled bitchy girls that dominate the modern anime scene.

The minor characters are even more tolerable. In addition to the ones I mentioned above, there's this mysterious character who always wears sunglasses. Every anime should have one.

The best character is Kinko Echigoya, my motivation for watching this series.

How come I never meet girls like this?

Can you guess who her voice actress is? Too late, you've probably already looked at the image below.

It's Naomi Shindo, the voice of Shizuru! I can't believe she doesn't get more work. You know you're underappreciated when one of your more prominent roless (as indicated by the bolded font on Anime News Network) is a minor character who gets less exposure in the intro sequence than a random dog that doesn't even appear in the series.

I haven't seen a show with an intro this misleading since REC. I guess there's only so much you can do in a 10 episode series.

Well developed minor characters
Simultaneous subplots
Comical victimization
Random Cat
Random Dog
Badass mid-episode transitions
Soundtrack by Yuki Kajiura
Themes of Hatred/Suffering/Revenge
Topics of Hatred/Suffering/Revenge

A character vaguely resembling myself
Soft-spoken girl voiced by Mamiko Noto
Fearsome yet elegant class president voiced by Naomi Shindo
Failed Confessions

Although this series is mildly enjoyable, I wouldn't recommend adding it to your must-watch list unless:

A) You're looking for something really sappy.
B) You're trying to soften yourself up for something darker, like Azumanga Daioh.
